Sustainable Living: Environment II

Environment 185A: Sustainable Living is a vital component of the Education for Sustainable Living Program (ESLP). This student-designed and student-facilitated program is offered through the Institute of the Environment. The course features a Speaker Series that invites distinguished guest speakers from UCLA and across the nation to discuss:

  • Food systems
  • Green business
  • Organic gardening
  • Sustainable living practices
  • The green economy
  • Environmental justice
  • Transportation issues

Speakers include authors, professors, community activists, environmentalists, and representatives from both for-profit and non-profit organizations, as well as government officials.

Course Lectures
  • This module features Glen MacDonald, who speaks on sustainable living practices and their importance in today's society. Participants will gain insights into how individual choices impact the environment.

  • Tara Kolla leads this module, discussing sustainable living techniques and practices. Participants will learn about the significance of consumer awareness and making informed choices to promote sustainability.

  • This module features Mud Baron, who discusses innovative approaches to sustainable living. Participants will explore practical solutions and strategies to implement sustainability in daily life.

  • In this module, Lisa KaasBoyle shares her insights on sustainable living practices. Participants will engage in discussions about the role of community action in fostering sustainability.

  • Michael B. Lehrer explores the intersection of architecture and sustainable living. Participants will learn about designing spaces that reflect sustainable practices and enhance environmental awareness.

  • Mia Lehrer discusses the importance of landscape architecture in sustainable living. Participants will learn how thoughtful landscape design can contribute to environmental sustainability.

  • Jonathan Parfrey presents on the critical aspects of sustainable living in urban environments. Participants will examine policies and practices that promote sustainability in city planning.

  • Amy Lukken discusses the role of creativity in promoting sustainable living. Participants will explore how artistic expression can influence environmental awareness and community engagement.
